FAQ

  •  What are the advantages of having a Natural Trim versus traditional trimming?

The biggest advantage is that it allows the hoof to grow the foot that Mother Nature intended to optimize natural movement and comfort.

  • How long will it take to rehabilitate my horse?
A horse grows a completely new hoof in approximately nine months as long as it has the proper nutrition and stimulation through exercise; although, the horse should be able to move more comfortably after each trim and well before the whole process is complete.

  • Will my horse be sore after a trim?
Rarely.  The horse should be the same or better after a trim in the way it moves and the comfort level.  There are times when it's a judgment call in rehabilitating a hoof where taking too much wall off too soon can cause sensitivity because of thin soles.  There are also times when ligaments and muscles can be stressed by changing the angle too quickly, thus causing sensitivity.

  • Can I ride my horse before the hooves are rehabilitated?

Yes.  Exercise is recommended.  I do recommend using boots and pads in cases where the back of the hoof is not fully developed or the sole is not 1/2" to 5/8" thick because  the weight of the rider can be enough to cause bruising and slow down the healing process.
